Sandia is committed to pushing the frontier of high-performance computing (HPC) capabilities by leading the design of computational abstractions for Exascale computing and beyond. The Scalable Modeling and Analysis Systems Department is home to leading researchers and engineers that study new programming and execution models with strong application orientation to engender next-generation supercomputer runtimes executing on hundreds of thousands of processor cores. Our team’s interests are broad and multi-disciplinary, spanning diverse research areas to tackle tough computational science problems important to Sandia’s mission. Our computer science research spans concurrency and parallelism, systems, programming languages, compilers, and architecture. On any given day, you may be called on to: + You will be challenged to use your technical judgment while utilizing the scientific method to recognize and formulate key computer science problems that span (HPC) computational science domains + Engage with a highly-focused agile team to research, design, and implement highly-scalable concurrent runtime algorithms targeting emerging architectural platforms + Collaborate with diverse application domain experts to understand requirements and co-design/develop scalable (mini-)apps + Deploy, tune, and debug parallel runtime software on supercomputer platforms by exploiting specialized scalable performance analysis tools in conjunction with performance modeling to characterize empirical results
+ PhD. degree in computer science or a related engineering or science discipline conferred within the past 5 years + Evidence of relevant and exceptional achievements in scalable systems research and development, as demonstrated in the form of technical publications, presentations, software verification tools, and/or knowledge of applications + Experience with strong code development and software engineering skills
+ Expertise in one or more of the following areas: HPC system performance modeling and analysis, HPC system resilience, concurrency and parallelism theory, large-scale concurrent algorithms, and/or scalable programming models research and development + Proficiency with high-performance computing platforms + Background in solving practical problems in science and engineering that involve encounters with real-world data + Substantial development experience with C++ (11,14) and C + Knowledge of functional programming (Haskell, SML, OCaml) and object-oriented and multi-paradigm system development (Scala) + Excellent written- and oral-communication skills + Ability to work in a collaborative research environment on problems in a variety of domains + Proficiency in solving problems, prioritizing work, and making decisions
The Computer Sciences and Information Systems Center is the home of computer science and information systems work and capabilities at Sandia's California site. This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted security clearance. Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to the work site.
