We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position with our Materials Science Division (MSD).
In this role you will investigate the fundamental chemistry and structure of polymer-lithium, ceramics-lithium and ceramic-polymer interfaces. Of interest is the state of the interface during deposition or formation, as a function of processing conditions, and the change in the interface over time in electrochemical systems. These interfaces are known to govern the performance of energy related devices such as solid-state batteries and fuel cells, and a fundamental understanding of the processes occurring at these interfaces will be of great importance for advancing these technologies.
Preparation of samples and characterization of interfaces will require the use of specialized inert atmosphere equipment and multiple surface sensitive characterization techniques such as X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy(TEM/EDS). The project will involve the design and implementation of custom nano- and micro-fabricated devices to enable the use of in-situi> electrochemical, spectroscopy and microscopy methods.
