Postdoctoral Positions in Synthetic Biology and Systems/Quantitative Biology at UIUC
The laboratory of Ting Lu (http://lulab.bioen.illinois.edu/) in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) are seeking multiple postdoctoral researchers in microbial synthetic biology and systems biology.
1) Experimental synthetic biology positions:
The positions are offered to work in microbial synthetic biology, an interdisciplinary research field that focuses on the design, analysis and construction of genetic regulatory networks for cellular functionality reprogramming. Specifically, identified researchers can work on several directions of synthetic biology such as synthetic microbial communities, biofilms and gene circuits in bacteria.
Ideal candidates for the positions should have extensive experiences in molecular cloning and DNA assembly for microorganisms. A Ph.D. in biological and related sciences is required. Experiences in microbial metabolic engineering, yeast genetic engineering, and lactic acid bacteria engineering are a plus but not necessary.
3) Computational systems biology/quantitative biology position:
A computational position is offered to work in theoretical analysis and computational simulations of microbial metabolic networks, particularly the metabolic flux of model and non-model yeast species.
Ideal candidates for the position should have a Ph.D. in quantitative sciences (e.g., physics or biophysics), experiences in nonlinear dynamics, and solid training in programming (e.g., C/C++). Experience in flux balance analysis and knowledge in microbial physiology are a plus but not necessary.
Salary is commensurate with skills and experience. The initial appointment is for one year and can be extended up to three years upon mutual agreement.
