We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position with our Chemical and Fuel Cycle Technologies Division (CFC).
In this role you will:
Design processes and equipment, and execute experiments supporting research to develop systems for the treatment of process fluids, effluents and wastes from the nuclear fuel cycle and similar systems.
Work as a member of a multidisciplinary team conducting experiments, developing technologies, and using computer models in support of laboratory experiments for industrial application.
Design and assess novel flowsheets to meet product specifications and operational requirements.
Operate and/or develop experimental systems to carry out lab-scale tests of novel process flowsheets and process chemistriesImplement sensors to measure specific process parameters of interest to gain understanding of operations.
Contribute to the development of computational models and computer codes from experimental data.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and the Laboratory community through research reports, project presentations, and other regular channels.
Analyze data and document results in the form of monthly reports, progress reports to sponsors, and technical publications and presentations; prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, attend and make presentations at scientific meetings.
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of pertinent literature.
Develop new ideas, concepts, and/or research proposals to contribute to programmatic growth.
We expect you to have:
Experience with experimental methods, tools, and techniques for chemical process design and development.
Experience developing models and performing detailed computations related to chemical process design.
Experience working with lab or pilot–scale process equipment.
Experience with the operation and implementation of thermo-mechanical systems.
Knowledge of programming (C++), and scripting languages (python, MATLAB) is desirable.
Experience with automated experimental data acquisition tools such as LabVIEW is desirable.
Considerable skills in both written and oral communication.
U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in chemical engineering or a related field at the Ph.D. degree level with zero to three years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience.
