The Columbia University Department of Dermatology has an opening for an Associate Research Scientist to work with our Skin Immunity, Integrity and Disease Models Core (SIND) of the Columbia University Skin Disease Resource-Based Center (epiCURE). SIND supports the translational research of normal and diseased skin with specific interests in immune and inflammatory diseases, photo damage, and the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying epidermal development and tumorigenesis.
The Associate Research Scientist will use various preclinical models to study disease mechanisms, test new therapeutic approaches, and conduct functional analysis both in vivo and in vitro. Responsibilities include designing and performing in vitro and in vivo studies, and data analysis; generating and maintaining human skin disease-specific mouse models; preparing new animal protocols and managing renewal of existing protocols on a yearly basis; establishing and maintaining primary cultures; and performing duties necessary to the functioning of the laboratory (e.g., ordering, maintaining and organizing laboratory equipment, supplies, and records).
PhD. in Biology, Physiology, Biochemistry or related field, and at least four years' related experience in an academic biology laboratory. This work requires experience in animal manipulation/handling, cell culture, and expertise in molecular and cell biology methodologies.
