The Opportunity
- Have you recently completed a PhD in structural geology?
- Contribute to one of the largest minerals research groups globally
- Join CSIRO – Australia’s leading scientific research organisation!
CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.
The successful candidate will join the CMR Discovery Program and will work with a multidisciplinary group of CSIRO researchers, mining and exploration industry and government agencies. The role will engage in applied research from basin to deposit-scale and will mainly focus on the structural evolution of sedimentary basins and orogenic belts, basin reconstruction, and integration of multi-disciplinary datasets in 3D basin or deposit models.
The exposure to a wide range of related fields will mean that the successful candidate is poised to play a key role around adapting basin techniques outside this field of research.
Your duties will include:
- Multi-disciplinary investigation of the structural evolution of sedimentary basins and orogenic belts.
- 3D and 4D reconstruction of sedimentary basin evolution.
- Undertaking field work in remote areas of Australia when required.
- Communicating research or technical results in internal and external forums and, where applicable, contribute to and generate scientific publications.
- Working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team to carry out tasks in support of CSIRO’s scientific objectives.
- Carrying out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.
Location: Perth, WA
Salary: AU$89k - AU$98k plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Specified term of 3 years
Reference: 88465
To be considered you will need:
- A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as structural geology applied to sedimentary basins and/or orogenic belts. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (full-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience.
- Experience in building deposit to regional-scale 3D structural models of sedimentary basins or orogenic belts using multi-disciplinary datasets.
- Experience in drill core and field work mapping of structures and sedimentary rocks.
- Experience in 3D-4D structural reconstructions with one or more of the following software, including KronosFlow, Moove or equivalents.
- Additional experience in either sedimentology, diagenesis, petrophysics, or mineralogy.
- Knowledge of one or more of the following software packages, including GoCAD, Leapfrog, ArcGIS, Geosoft, or equivalents.
