Job Description
A San Francisco Bay Area biotech start-up company developing innovative technologies for rapid real-time SARS-CoV-2 detection and monitoring has open Postdoctoral Researcher positions for promoting diversity in health-related research, as described by the NIH NIDCR at https://www.nidcr.nih.gov/careers-training/interns-fellows/nidcr-guidance-applications-response-research-supplements-promote-diversity. Per NIH NIDCR guidelines, this position is limited to citizens or non-citizen nationals of the United States or to individuals who have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States (i.e., in possession of a Permanent Resident Card, Form I-551). Eligibility is also contingent upon circumstances, background or characteristics that enhance research workforce diversity as described in the NIH Interest in Diversity NOT-OD-20-031 (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-20-031.html). The successful candidate will have experience in molecular assay development, testing, optimization, and validation, and with chemical nucleic acid modifications. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in molecular biology techniques and nucleic acid testing technologies (NAT).
Experience & Skills Required:
A Ph.D. science degree in molecular biology, chemical biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field is required
Graduate work experience focused on the design, development, optimization, and validation of molecular assays utilizing NAT technologies
Analytical problem-solving skills in:
Nucleic acid amplification and detection
Bio-conjugation and modification of nucleotides
Enzymatic and non-enzymatic ligation
DNA and RNA amplification, purification, detection, and characterization
Project-oriented; candidate must be flexible and can work as part of a team as well as independently
Strong initiative with the ability and desire to drive projects to completion under tight timelines
Ability to multitask by pursuing multiple research approaches simultaneously to achieve project goals
Ability to gather information and resources for self-directed troubleshooting and become an expert in the subject matter
Great attention to detail, strong organization skills, and good record keeping are required
Self-motivated and possess a strong sense of urgency, ownership, and accountability
Ability to communicate ideas and results clearly and effectively
Diligence in following laboratory safety guidelines and practices
