This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance. : We are seeking a creative and motivated postdoctoral candidate with a real passion to work within a dynamic multi-disciplinary team. You will work with high performing scientists and researchers to investigate wind energy technologies through the analysis of experimental data and computational simulations. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Work on experimental campaigns conducted at the SWiFT facility and other sites that result in large volumes of data that require processing for quality control, statistics, Uncertainty Quantification and higher-level analysis for exploration of physical phenomena and comparison to computational models for development and validation; + Work closely with experimentalists and modelers to design experiments and process, analyze, and publish research on wind plant systems.
+ PhD in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or relevant discipline; + Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance.
+ Experience working with structural and/or fluid measurement sensors and sensor networks; + Experience with signal processing; + Experience performing data analysis/analytics on experimental data; + Experience with Uncertainty Quantification and propagation methods; + Experience running mid-fidelity computational models for experiment design and validation application; + Experience tuning computational models using experimental data; + Demonstrated ability to publish articles as lead author in journals and/or conference proceedings; + Ability to communicate clearly through writing and speaking; + Strong organizational skills and documentation skills.
The Wind Energy Technologies Department performs research and development to improve performance, lower costs, and accelerate the deployment of wind technologies. This department is responsible for all aspects of wind turbine blade design, system reliability, system integration, and environmental evaluations. For blades, the team performs R&D on materials, airfoil design, structural analysis and design, and manufacturing processes and partners with universities in the areas of composite materials, aero-dynamics, probabilistic analysis, and embedded control sensors and actuators. Department activities range from computer based design and analysis, lab testing of components, to full scale testing of wind blades at the SWiFT test site, near Lubbock, TX. The department has been assigned the leadership role by the DOE for wind system reliability, which focuses on tracking reliability performance of the US wind turbine fleet and directs appropriate resources toward improvements in turbine technology This department also leads basic and applied research efforts, sponsored by the DOE Wind and Water Power Technologies Office, supporting development of tools and methods to improve device performance. Through partnerships with industry and public presentation of results, Sandia serves an important role in energy surety for the nation.

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L-level security clearance to start. Position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) L-level security clearance or active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD) to be considered for this position.
