A postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated Ph.D., in an established laboratory focused on breast cancer prevention. The successful candidate will dedicate his/her postdoctoral study to developing a model that predicts the eventual development of breast cancer. The model will be based on genetic alterations (mutations, copy number alterations, codon usage, etc.) observed in the benign biopsies of women, who eventually developed breast cancer.
The fellow will drive an established project, with developed and validated analysis pipelines and take it to the next level. This project seeks to identify molecular biomarkers of the risk of the development of breast cancer using high throughput sequencing data obtained from tissues collected as part of a case-control study at Northwestern University, as well as publically available data sets such as TCGA. The fellow will use these data and test the performance at predicting the risk of the development of breast cancer of number of machine learning models.
Candidates must have a recent Ph.D. in bioinformatics and a strong publication record. They should possess:
1. Quantitative background, familiar with statistical models and machine learning models
2. Computational genomics experiences (high throughput sequence analysis, etc.)
3. Strong programming skills: (Python & R & Bash).
He/she should demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English and in communicating scientific research findings accurately. Strong writing skills are essential, as well as a track record of first authorship for peer reviewed publications. The candidate must be able to conduct independent research while collaborating with others. The candidate will be mentored by a team with expertise in medical bioinformatics, breast cancer risk determination and breast cancer molecular biology.
