The University of Florida, Department of Pediatrics, Vijay Chandran Research Laboratory seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a team studying the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration (Elife, PMID: 29257745) and axon regeneration (Neuron, PMID: 26898779; Cell Report, PMID: 29386116) after CNS injury and neurological diseases, using various in vitro and in vivo model systems. The Vijay Chandran Laboratory accomplishes this by integrating various omics techniques (genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics) with basic neurobiology and systems analyses (Cell, PMID: 24267887; Genome Biology, PMID: 18402659; PNAS, PMID: 29946024) to develop a more systematic understanding of nerve injury and neurodegenerative conditions.
Highly motivated candidates with a PhD or MD/PhD in neurological sciences and experience in molecular biology, imaging, and genomics are encouraged to apply. Prior experience using murine models of neurodegenerative disease, including histological, behavioral and microscopic analysis of disease is strongly preferred, but more important is the passion for basic and translational research.
The laboratory is situated in academic research building at the main campus in Gainesville surrounded by many excellent labs and core facilities with tremendous training opportunities for cutting edge techniques. Florida is known for its sunshine and outdoor recreations. Gainesville residents can choose from more than 70 nature parks in and surrounding the city to pursue recreational activities.
