Job DescriptionThis postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Do you want to join a dynamic team that solves significant issues for our nation’s security?** We are seeking a postdoctoral appointee who is a creative problem solver with fundamental knowledge in modeling and mathematical analysis of chemical kinetic systems. The project you will be working on targets massively parallel computational modeling and analysis of gas phase and gas/solid catalytic systems. It involves research work in close collaboration with computational research staff, employing C++ software in heterogenous CPU-GPU computing environments, with active contribution to the development of advanced open-source codes for chemical kinetic modeling and chemical mechanism analysis, benchmarking and optimization of code performance on different heterogeneous hardware, and the use of these codes in computational studies of hydrocarbon chemistry in catalytic systems. Your role will span across two departments, whose work is primarily funded under the DOE Office of Science and addresses fundamental experimental and numerical problems, mostly in the areas of gas phase and gas-surface reaction systems and uncertainty quantification.
You have the following: + PhD in a field of chemical/physical sciences or engineering + Experience in C++ software development and in computational science.
You also have one, or more, of the following: + Experience in C++ and Kokkos on heterogeneous architectures. + Experience in open source software project development. + Knowledge of gas-phase and catalytic chemistry. + Experience in performing collaborative research. + Excellent communication and presentation skills.
The Reacting Flow Research (8351) performs experimental and computational modeling studies of reacting flow phenomena relevant to combustion processes.

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
