We also study co-morbidities of infection and vulnerable populations, such as the very young and the elderly and those suffering from cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders. Its staff of more than 350 employees includes a multidisciplinary team of approximately 65+ doctoral-level scientists who lead more than 200 major research projects in the Institute’s three program areas of Disease Intervention & Prevention, Host Pathogen Interaction and Population Health, as well as the Southwest National Primate Research Center.

Searching for a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to further develop our in vitro granuloma model (Guirado et al 2015 mBio) to study the interaction between Mycobacterium tuberculosis and human innate immune cells. This model can also be optimized to serve as a drug discovery platform. The ideal candidate will be experienced with fluidics, bio-engineering, cell culture, and microbiology. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in expanding their skill set to include studying human responses to diseases, inflammation and immunity. The successful applicant will report to Dr. Larry Schlesinger and his lab director and be part of a larger group of infectious diseases and tuberculosis researchers at Texas Biomed. Mentoring for career advancement is an important element of the position.
Requirements for this position are: Ph.D in bio-engineering, immunology, cell biology, microbiology or a related discipline. Knowledge and experience of human immunology and cell biology/immunology is required. Experience with tissue culture and immunology techniques in a BSL2 lab is required. Must pass a basic FBI background check to work in the BSL3 with M. tuberculosis. Must have at least one first authored manuscript in a peer-reviewed journal. Preferred: Experience working with primary human cells and fluidics, and working in a BSL3 facility. Experience in basic molecular biology and biochemistry techniques is preferred, including PCR, Western blotting, and microscopy.
This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position with work hours of Monday through Friday – 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Texas Biomedical Research Institute is committed to a drug-free workplace. Pre-employment drug screen is required.
