Job DescriptionPostdoctoral positions available in the Nerbonne laboratory in the Department of Medicine at Washington University Medical School to study the molecular mechanisms that regulate the expression, properties and functioning of voltage-gated ion channels in the mammalian heart. These channels are critical determinants of action potential generation in the myocardium, and changes in their expression or properties are associated with increased risk of arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. The available positions present an exceptional opportunity for individuals interested in combining molecular, biochemical, electrophysiological and modeling approaches to define the physiological mechanisms controlling the expression and properties of myocardial ion channels and how these mechanisms go awry in inherited and acquired cardiac disease in studies on native (mouse and human) cardiac myocytes and human induced pluripotent stem cell derived cardiac myocytes (hiPSC-CMs). A PhD in physiology or a related field and previous experience in electrophysiology are required; preference will be given to individuals with additional experience/expertise in molecular biology or imaging.
