In addition, they are using their expertise in interdisciplinary research centers across the university.
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Doug Weber Lab at MechE. In this role, you will carry out advanced independent and/or directed research to achieve the objectives of the research project. This position will require an in depth knowledge of a specialized field, process, or discipline and may involve coordinating and implementing complex research plans, the development of methods of research, testing and data collection, analysis and evaluation, and writing reports which contain descriptive, analytical and evaluative content. You will acquire the professional skills needed to pursue a career path of your choosing. You will be responsible for designing and implementing hardware and software for collecting and analyzing data in experiments involving recording and stimulating neural activity in animal and human experiments. Also, to participate in experiments by collecting, analyzing, and reporting on results of your research.
The Weber lab combines fundamental neuroscience and engineering research to understand physiological mechanisms underlying sensory perception, feedback control of movement, and neuro-plasticity in sensorimotor systems. Knowledge gained from these studies is being applied to invent new technologies and therapies for improving sensory and motor functions after stroke, spinal cord injury, or limb loss. These principles are also being utilized to develop wearable devices to improve sensory, motor, and cognitive functions in balanced humans.
Core responsibilities include:
Configuring and maintaining equipment to measure myoelectric and neurographic signals animals and humans.
Responsible for writing software to control instruments and log data during experiments.
Writing software to analyze and visualize myoelectric, force, and motion data from experiments.
Composing reports and manuscripts summarizing the results of experiments.
PHD Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Bioengineering
Applicant must be proficient in instrumentation and techniques for neural stimulation and recording. Experience performing animal surgery, husbandry, and experimentation is also required. Experience with Matlab and/or Python is preferred.
Ability to critically evaluate and interpret trends in data
Computer experience is vital.
