Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Post-Doctoral Appointee to join the Inertial Sensors Department and support Sandia’s advanced MEMS sensor technologies and Heterogeneous Integration of microelectronics for national security applications. You may have an educational background in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related STEM field. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: + Execute research and development projects for advanced microelectronics integration activities, such as the development of microelectronics fabrication solutions for hybrid MEMS/ROIC systems, RF microsystems, electro-optic focal plane arrays, CMOS, novel physics experiments, and additive manufacturing. + Advance Sandia’s proficiency in Heterogeneous Integration of microelectronics through developing and maintaining expertise in 2.5D and 3D integration with through substrate vias (TSV) and flip chip bonding for both mid-pitch and fine pitch interconnects. + Interact closely with internal and external expertise for microelectronics design, fabrication, integration and testing. Utilize Sandia’s internal facilities including the MESA Fabs, electroplating resources, packaging/integration labs, as well as test and failure analysis. + Identify, procure, and commission new fabrication, characterization, and test equipment. + Attend and present work at professional domestic and international conferences, as well as publish peer reviewed journal articles.
+ Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related STEM field. + Undergraduate degree in a STEM field. + Experience with, or interest in microelectronics fabrication approaches such as physical vapor deposition, reactive ion etching, photolithography, electrochemical deposition, etc. + Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance.
Ideally, we would like to see your experience include some of the following: + Academic or professional experience in MEMS or other relevant microelectronics fields such as Advanced Packaging R&D for ICs, RF Microsystems, SiPhotonics, Compound Semiconductors, or Heterogeneous Integration + Ability to conceive and propose ideas for process improvement, troubleshooting, and new capability development. + Interest in leading development efforts including cost, schedule, and device realization. + Proven interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate, explain, and educate others. + Strong interpersonal skills and eagerness to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team environment. + Active DOE or DOD security clearance.
