- Posting Date: Nov 19, 2020
- Application Deadline: Open Until Filled
Job DescriptionApplicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral researcher position in Dr. Gavin Wang’s laboratory in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). We are seeking self-motivated and intellectually curious individuals who have experience in cell biology or molecular cell biology techniques. Cellular senescence is a state of irreversible cell cycle arrest and a cellular model of aging. Recent studies have linked the progression of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) to the increase of senescent cells in the brain (Nature 2018; Nat Neurosci 2019), though the underlying mechanisms remain to be determined. The successful candidate will work on NIH-funded projects studying the mechanisms by which aging-associated increases in senescent cells contribute to the pathogenesis and progression of AD utilizing a systematic approach, including the use of molecular cell biology, immunology, molecular and cellular imaging, and histological techniques. The applicant will also have the opportunity to participate in the discovery and development of novel therapeutic agents for AD prevention and treatment using both innovative 3D cell culture systems and transgenic mouse models.
Applicants should have a recent PhD in molecular or cellular biology, immunology, cellular neurobiology, or other related field. Previous experience with animal studies, confocal microscopy and flow cytometry are preferred. Interested applicants should submit the following application materials: 1) an updated CV, 2) a cover letter summarizing your research interests and career goals, and 3) the name and contact information of three references to Dr. Gavin Wang at email@example.com. Competitive salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is available immediately until filled.
