Summary
The Bates laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to investigate how DNA replication forks navigate complex chromosome structure, one of the major triggers of fork stalling and DNA damage. Research would include wet lab experiments in bacteria and yeast, including fluorescence in situ microscopy, ChIP-Seq, and Next-Generation sequencing. Computational studies will include genomic profiling and creating mechanical models of DNA structure and protein interactions. We also utilize several unique techniques including a recently developed assay to measure DNA supercoiling, and a method to synchronize cell growth (the baby cell machine).
Candidates should have a PhD in a basic science, mathematics, or physics. No prior experience is required, but individuals with training in bioinformatics, computer programming, or molecular biology are particularly wanted. Candidates should enjoy collaborative research and discussion, have good English communication skills, and love science.
Job Duties
- Design, conduct, and analyze biochemical, molecular, and genetic experiments, notably DNA sequencing using an Illumina platform machine.
- Prepare and submit research publications and present at local and international meetings.
- Provide mentoring and training for new graduate students.
Minimum Qualifications
- MD or Ph.D in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
- No experience required.
