Summary
A Postdoctoral Associate in Genetics and Developmental Evolution is available in the laboratory of Dr. Gad Shaulsky https://www.bcm.edu/people-search/gad-shaulsky-30425 at the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine. The Department is an internationally recognized leader in genetics and is located in a state-of-the art research facility in the Texas Medical Center in Houston. The Shaulsky laboratory studies the role of allorecognition in development and social evolution in the social soil amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum. The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research related to the signal transduction pathways that mediate allorecognition downstream of the TgrB1-TgrC1 pathway, with specific emphasis on segregation of non-matching allotypes, social cheating, cell-type differentiation and terminal development. Job Duties
- Conduct research utilizing genetics, cell biology, light and fluorescence microscopy and molecular biology laboratory techniques.
- Plan, direct and conduct specialized and advanced research experiments.
- Evaluate and analyze data.
- Establish new research protocols and procedures.
- Summarize research findings and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
- May supervise research staff and PhD students.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD or equivalent degree in biology or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in molecular cloning
- Experience in Dictyostelium biology or microbial genetics
