Job Description
JOB SUMMARYThe laboratory of Jianjun Sun at the University of Connecticut Department of Physiology and Neurobiology is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and National Institutes of Health.
Our group studies female reproductive organ formation and function. We recently developed a Drosophila model to investigate the conserved mechanism of ovulation and developed high-throughput platforms for screening small compounds that can inhibit follicle rupture and be further developed into non-steroidal contraceptive medicines (Deady and Sun, PLoS Genet, 2015; Deady et al., eLife, 2017; Knapp and Sun, PNAS, 2017; Li et al., PNAS, 2018; Knapp et al., Development, 2019; Shen and Sun, Development, 2020).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will participate in identifying the signaling network that control ovulation and fertilization, small compound library screens, and/or investigating molecular mechanisms of leading contraceptive compounds in inhibiting ovulation.
The candidate is also responsible in supervision and training of less experienced lab members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PhD or MD/PhD degree
Strong background in genetics, cell biology, or developmental biology
Ability to work independently and take a leading role on their project, under supervision and guidance of the PI
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience in Drosophila genetics and/or reproductive biology is highly desirable
APPOINTMENT TERMS
This is a full-time position. Upon satisfactory performance, this position will be renewed annually. Salary will be commensurate with appropriate experience according to NIH scale (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-20-070.html).
