POSITION SUMMARY:This position will make essential contributions to the Genome Editing Core. The Gene Editing Core is associated with the Animal Models Core, Genome Editing & Animal Models (GEAM) Core within the University of Wisconsin-Madison Biotechnology Center. The Genome Editing Core provides access to advanced genome editing expertise and pipelines. The core uses CRISPR to provide genome-edited mice, rats, swine, and a variety of mammalian cell lines. Additionally, the Core works with many scientists to advance their unique genome editing goals, and molecular characterization and identification projects. The applicant will serve the essential functions of ensuring the essential molecular biology and tissue culture functions of the Genome Editing & Animal Models core are being conducted carefully and efficiently.

DEGREE AND AREA OF SPECIALIZATION:
A Bachelor's degree in a biomedical, biotechnology or similar field is required.
MINIMUM YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of one year of relevant research lab experience, including undergraduate or graduate research laboratory experience.
Well-qualified applicants will have the following preferred work experience:
- Experience in molecular biology, especially PCR, required
- Experience with other molecular biology methods strongly preferred, including next-gen library preparations, cloning, and/or in vitro transcription.
- Experience with tissue culture is strongly preferred, especially from a wide variety of cell lines
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience using standard software packages, including Microsoft Office Online
- Ability to adhere to laboratory safety procedures and protocols
The position will require a demonstrated ability to:
- Utilize effective time-management skills, as the Genome Editing and Animal Models Core is a fee-for-service core facility
- Conduct consistent & reproductive outcomes through careful technique and adherence to protocols
- Enthusiasm for laboratory practice and research
- Careful documentation skills
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work within Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
