Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.
Northeastern’s comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.
About the Opportunity:
Northeastern University is a global leader in experiential education and research with expertise in marine and coastal ecology, engineering, environmental forecasting, fisheries and ecosystem-based management, ecological restoration, sociology, and sustainability science. The Nature Conservancy is a world leading conservation organization with marine and coastal priorities currently focused on sustainable fisheries, quantifying the economic benefits of marine and coastal conservation, and the role of ecosystems in protecting societies from coastal hazards and climate change.
Initially launched in 2018, the CSI-TNC Coastal Sustainability Fellows Program leverages the interdisciplinary expertise of Northeastern’s Coastal Sustainability Institute and The Nature to train postdoctoral scholars and address major challenges facing coastal communities and ecosystems. The fellowship provides two years of salary ($60,000 per year) and benefits plus an additional $5,000 each year to support travel for meetings and field research. Fellows will be based at NU’s CSI and Marine Science Center in Nahant, MA, and co-mentored by scientists at CSI and TNC.
Prospective candidates must submit an application that includes a CV, 2-3 representative publications, and a 2 page research statement that identifies an academic mentor (or mentors) at NU- CSI. The candidate will work with TNC mentors in the Massachusetts Rivers, Coasts and Oceans program, as well as other TNC Programs. Candidates should arrange for 2 letters of recommendation to be sent to the co-chairs of the selection committee: Steven Scyphers (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Alison Bowden (email@example.com). With an anticipated start date as early as July 2021, applications will be reviewed as they are received. We are committed to promoting and enhancing diversity in conservation and sustainability science and therefore strongly encourage applicants from all traditionally underrepresented groups. This appointment is funded by an award received from an outside source. The duration of this position is contingent upon the continued availability of funding from this award at its current financial level.
The CSI- TNC Coastal Sustainability Fellows Program welcomes applicants from all fields of study focused on understanding and pursuing coastal sustainability. All applicants must have earned a doctoral degree in a relevant field of natural science, social science, or engineering.
