You could be the Postdoctoral Appointee we are pursuing to join our team. You will be providing analytic support for advanced radiography technologies for nondestructive testing. You will be performing analysis, modeling, and simulation for these new technologies collaboratively with laboratory staff and technologists. Join our team and make a difference! On any given day, you may be called on to: + Apply scientific knowledge of optical measurement to develop innovative techniques for data collection through system design/setup and experimentation. + Work in the fundamentals of science and engineering while applying a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles. + Employ frequent application of theories and engineering methods to develop new designs, concepts, or processes relating to radiography design and deployment. + Ensure all work adheres to safe operation practices for radiography systems and explosive handling. Be a driver of safety within the laboratory. + Work both independently and collaboratively with peers. + Engage with national and international scientific communities. + Present original research at conferences and publish research in appropriate peer-reviewed journals.
+ Have, or are pursuing, a PhD in physics, especially electromagnetics and/or optics and possess a BS in a STEM field. PhD Required to start. + Experience in statistics, signal processing, and image processing + Programming skills in at least one language + Able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
+ Knowledge of wavefront propagation + Knowledge of x-rays and digital radiography + Knowledge of speckle statistics + Experience with advanced data or image processing techniques and digital signal processing + Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to interact with fellow colleagues with diverse technical background + Matlab and/or Python coding experience or two different programing languages to demonstrate ability to learn different languages
The NonDestructive Evaluation and Development Department is part of the Engineering Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories. Our team consists of engineers and technologists specializing in nondestructive inspection and x-ray diagnostics, design development, and engineering discovery interfacing closely with computational solid mechanicians and data science experts. Our center is the steward of engineering mechanics for Sandia and we are dedicated to solving our customer's most pressing and important national security problems. Our group specializes in experimental technologies related to structural mechanics, structural dynamics and non-destructive evaluation. Along with our state-of-the-art experimental technologies, technical expertise, and analytical capabilities in sister departments, we provide integrated customer solutions in the following areas: accurate characterization of structural response of systems to force and pressure environments, development and application of innovative radiographic and acoustic diagnostics, structural dynamics testing including modal analysis and vibration characterization, and design expertise for fixturing and development of experimental configurations.
