Job DescriptionPostdoctoral Scholar to pursue NIH and DOD funded research under the guidance of a scientific mentor in a research laboratory within the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences; conducts research on cancer genetics and genomics in particular BAP1-Tumor Predisposition Syndrome (OMIM: 614327) and the molecular genetics of uveal melanoma; performs analysis of next generation sequencing data and carry out various in-vitro functional analysis of genetic variants; prepares results of research for publication; assists PI with grant proposals to obtain outside funding from state and federal agencies and report awards progress; develops, adopts and implements new laboratory methods. Provides quality control for experiments, researches new methods. Guides and trains students and lab staff in laboratory techniques as needed and works collaboratively with other laboratory staff.
Education and Experience
Ph.D in molecular genetics or related field is required; extensive experience in various molecular and cell biology laboratory techniques required; experience with sequencing, NGS data analysis, cloning and gene editing is required; strong computer skills including experience with bioinformatics analysis is required; experience with in-vitro cancer cell biology preferred; experience with candidate gene discovery is preferred; previous experience in mouse orthotopic or transgenic tumor models is preferred; Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
