Summary
The General Thoracic Surgery division of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a post-doctoral fellow in basic and translational research in thoracic oncology which includes lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and mesothelioma.
The job entails conducting independent research as the leader of a specific project. The candidate will be the primary scientist for laboratory project based on carcinogenesis from environmental toxins in lung and mesothelioma. This project is the focus on a recently funded NIH grant which is an extension of a prior project published in Oncogene (PMID: 31570787). The project will require scientific work directly from human tumor and normal tissue. The candidate will work in close conjunction with the principal investigator, the laboratory instructor, the laboratory manager, and intermittently with students. The laboratory has a full-time manager who manages the budget and equipment, therefore, non-scientific project management requirements will be minimal.

Job Duties
- Experience with tumor metabolism.
- Performs Seahorse XF, mitochondrial imaging.
- Experience with metabolomics with the knowledge basis to interact and work with the core facilities at BCM.
- Performs basic molecular biology techniques and significant cell culture with the ability to teach these techniques to fellows and students.
- Performs techniques mutation detection, gene expression profiling, chromatin immunoprecipitation, DNA/RNA-protein interactions cell culture, lentiviral transductions, mouse models, and transcriptomic analysis.
- Assists with direct tumor collection from the operating room as required based on the specific project.
- Performs bcl-2 homology domain (BH3) profiling of solid tumors (esophageal, mesothelioma, and lung), however, we can teach this technique.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
