Any concerns about the ability to meet this requirement should be directed to HR Solutions at (505) 284-4700. : We are seeking a hardworking Postdoctoral Appointee to conduct experimental research in the areas of mechanical behavior, metallurgy, materials science, and nanoscience. In this role, you will use your experience and education in material characterization and property measurements, including thin film and/or small-scale mechanical testing, in-situ scanning electron microscopy (SEM), in-situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM), microstructural characterization, data science, or some combination thereof to support ongoing basic energy science research.
+ Possess, or are pursuing, a PhD in materials science & engineering, physics, nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field + Good interpersonal skills as evidenced by a record of publication of results in peer-reviewed journals and external presentations at scientific conferences + Proven track record in experimental research and technique development + Able to acquire and maintain a DOE security clearance
The most suitable candidates will have experience in many of these areas: + Familiarity with nanocrystalline metals + Familiarity with grain boundaries and their role in controlling material properties. + Familiarity with thin film deposition techniques + Experience testing a multitude of material systems, with emphasis on in-situ mechanical testing capabilities and an eagerness for technique development + Experience in a range SEM and TEM sample preparation techniques + Experience in in-situ SEM and TEM experiments, such as, in-situ heating, irradiation, implantation, and/or mechanical property testing + Experience using TEM for tomography, procession electron diffraction (PED), ultra-fast or dynamic TEM development (DTEM), or other advanced techniques + Curiosity about exploring process-structure-property relationships in metallic alloys + Experience in using electron microscopy for diffraction analysis and defect analysis + Strong theoretical knowledge base in thermodynamics and kinetics
The Nanostructure Physics Department is part of the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) within the Materials, Physical, & Chemical Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories.
