- Job Number: 7089361 (Ref #: Register )
- Posting Date: Nov 17, 2021
Job DescriptionA postdoctoral or more senior research position is available for research into the synthesis and properties of new polyolefins designed to be chemically degradable back to monomer, aiming to provide the basis for a circular economy for polyolefins plastics and elastomers. The work is supported by the Department of Energy, Basic Energy Sciences. The position is based in the laboratory of Prof. Richard Register (Princeton Chemical and Biological Engineering), in conjunction with the group of Prof. Paul Chirik (Princeton Chemistry), as part of a broader five-PI team assembled for this project. Polymers will be based on the divinylcyclobutane and divinyloligocyclobutane monomer/oligomer recently developed by the Chirik group (DOI: 10.1038/s41557-020-00614-w) and will employ metathesis chemistries for their synthesis. A recent doctorate (chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related field) and expertise in polymer synthesis or air-sensitive syntheses (glove box, Schlenk line, or similar) are required. Prior experience in macromolecular characterization (NMR, GPC), or in solid-state structural characterization (XRD) or physical property measurements would be added plusses. Candidates should have the strong interpersonal and communications skills required to work productively with researchers from other groups, to mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and to support the research team.
Princeton University is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. We actively seek students, faculty, and staff of exceptional ability and promise who share in our commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship, and who will bring a diversity of viewpoints and cultures. Applicants should apply at: https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/23521 and include a CV (including a list of publications), research interest statement (a discussion of past research and expertise), and contact information for three references. Appointments are for one year with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and continued funding.
