On any given day, you may be called on to: + Plan and perform experiments, install, repair, and maintain diagnostic tools, collect and analyze data with the goal of understanding and characterizing the process-property-performance relationships of thermal and kinetically sprayed materials + Design experiments in support of team's projects + Publish journal articles and present work at local, national, and international conferences
+ You have, or are pursuing a PhD in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, or a related field and possess a bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) + Background includes experience using materials characterization instrumentation (e.g., SEM, XRD) on metals/ceramics + Experience includes powder processing (e.g. milling, sieving) or characterization (e.g. powder sizing, powder flow) + Proven track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific and/or technical conferences + Able to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
+ Experience or academic training in Thermal/Kinetic Spray Coating research and development + Experience with crafting and conducting experiments + Experience in nano-ceramic or nano-metallic processing + Experience in computer programming (MatLab, Python, etc) + Experience demonstrating teamwork and positive customer interactions + Proven interpersonal skills and ability to establish strong collaborations across multiple fields
The Spray Research Technologies Department Mission is to provide Subject Matter expertise to the Laboratories in Thermal and Kinetic Spray technologies.We conduct research on the structure, processing, and properties of materials to improve the performance of coatings produced by 1) Plasma Spraying (Air and Controlled Atmosphere), 2) Twin Wire Arc Spraying, 3) Flame Spraying, 4) Cold Spraying and 5) Aerosol Deposition. We routinely support Sandia's engineers to tackle a broad range of materials selection, component design, component fabrication, coating process development, and process challenges by applying our fundamental materials science, physics, and chemistry expertise.
