Job DescriptionA postdoctoral researcher position is available immediately in the Department of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) (https://scholars.uab.edu/display/lzhou11). The position involves development and application of innovative mitochondrial-targeted optogenetic approaches for the study of complex cardiac metabolic and electrophysiological remodeling in the context of heart failure. The overall goal of this project is to delineate the pathological role of mitochondrial-derived stress in the development of cardiac dysfunction and heart failure, and to translate the findings in the development of effective mitochondrial-targeted gene therapy.
We seek motivated and creative individuals who will be encouraged to develop their own research within the overall scope of this project. Qualifications include PhD in biomedical science/engineering or other relevant areas of biomedical sciences. The ideal candidates should have strong research background in animal studies with interests in cardiovascular disease, mitochondrial biology or gene therapy. Previous experience in molecular cloning, cell biology, or animal handling/surgery are highly desirable. Working experience in mitochondrial biology and optogenetics is plus.
