This position focuses on the application of deep learning in traffic control specially in work zones. The ML component of this research aims to address fundamental/theoretical as well as applied aspects and aims to not only develop novel tools for traffic control but also push the state of the art in data-efficient and causal learning. The appointment is for two years.
Qualifications: Candidates must hold a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering or related fields with research and hands-on experience in machine learning. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with vision and radar systems, although this background is not necessary. Candidates must also have strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team and participate in guidance of graduate students and in preparing research proposals.
Postdoc Opening #2 (Project: Haptic Navigation):
The project focuses on the design and implementation of a haptic navigation system for individuals with visual impairment and involves design and implementation of miniature stepper motors that are as small as 3 mm in diameter. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the design and fabrication of micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), although this background is not necessary. The appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension to the second year based on performance.
Qualifications: Background and hands on experience in the design of electromechanical/mechatronic systems and actuators is needed. Background in the design and fabrication of microelectromechanical systems is a plus but not necessary. Candidates must also have strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team and participate in guidance of graduate students and in preparing research proposals.
