Job Description
Summary
We are seeking a PhD post-doctoral fellow for appointment in our NIH/NHLBI T32 training grant, entitled “Collaborative Research Training in Thrombosis and Inflammation”. This program aims to train postdoctoral scientists for collaborative research careers in two inter-related topics: thrombosis and inflammation. There is increasing evidence of a direct relationship between thrombosis and inflammation in numerous human diseases. As examples, inflammation contributes to the pathogenesis of thrombotic disorders such as stroke and coronary artery disease, while thrombosis is linked to conditions associated with inflammation including obesity, cancer, sepsis, COVID-19, and many others.
The fellow will train under the primary mentorship of a primary mentor and a mentoring committee composed of research faculty from the Center for Translational Research on
Inflammatory Diseases (CTRID) a joint initiative between Baylor College of Medicine and the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. The program includes a unique combined curriculum with shared didactic and clinically oriented training, a weekly multidisciplinary research seminar series, and interactions with a vibrant multidisciplinary group of faculty from 5 academic departments. The fellow will engage in basic, clinical and/or translational research involving the interactions between inflammation and thrombosis. The fellow will oversee research experiments, data and sample collection procedures, assist with data analyses/presentation, and write up of manuscripts, assist in supervising staff and students, work with collaborators to develop and conduct related projects, assist in development of grant proposals, and present work at seminars.
Job Duties
- Plans, directs and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments.
- Evaluates and analyzes data.
- May establish new research protocols and procedures.
- Summarizes research findings and publish results in research journals.
- May be responsible for laboratory operations.
- May supervise research staff.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education Required: Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.

NIH T32 requires that trainees must be citizens or a noncitizen national of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence by training appointment date.
Typical appointment is two years in duration. Candidates with a strong background in translational research in medicine, nutritional, and lifestyle/behavior, and cellular/molecular biology are preferred. Must be motivated, enthusiastic, careful, and able to think critically. The ideal candidate will have strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and is highly organized. Preference will be given to U.S. citizens
within 3 years of receipt of their PhD.
