Responsibilities
The Arthritis and Clinical Immunology Research Program is hiring a Research Assistant Member with biostatistics or bioinformatics training who is ready to start a transitional faculty position in data analytics. This mentored position would progressively develop novel research design and analytic approaches to optimize rigor and outcomes of clinical research, clinical trials and/or trans-omic analyses of complex human autoimmune disease data. Performs a wide variety of analyses, including but not limited to parametric and non-parametric statistics. Evaluates the statistical methods and procedures used to obtain data and to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, accuracy, reliability and usability of data. Develops statistical analysis plans and eports results of statistical analyses, including information in the form of graphs, charts, and tables. Conveys results for presentations to non-statistical audiences. Analyzes and interprets statistical data and prepares conclusions. Assists with data visualization. Identifies relationships and trends in data, as well as any factors that could affect the results of research. Writes and publishes peer-reviewed manuscripts, presents findings at national/international meetings, and is mentored to write successful grant applications.
This is a transitional position for scientists who have completed an exemplary postdoctoral experience or exceptional new graduates who show promise to develop independent projects and attract extramural grant support. Incumbents are characterized by considerable experience, highly distinctive competence, and a demonstrated ability to perform independently.
Benchmark Accountabilities:
- Conducts advanced scientific research with a high degree of independence and innovation that provides significant contributions to the lab and respective program
- Manages research projects including budget oversight, as well as providing research mentoring for students, trainees, and colleagues while receiving faculty level mentoring appropriate for emerging principal investigators
- Personally communicates findings orally and prepares at least the first draft of publications and applications
- Prepares and submits proposals for individual and/or research program project grant support
- Engages in laboratory wide teamwork and seeks new opportunities for exploration and collaboration
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Sound knowledge of the principles and practices of scientific theory, research and investigative methods; to possess innate curiosity about data analytics as applied to biologic problems; demonstrates skill in formulating and testing hypotheses; ability to personally design and conduct data analyses; to analyze and summarize data and results; communicates effectively both orally and in writing in order to competently prepare scientific papers and grant proposals; mentors students, trainees, less experienced scientists and other team members in a manner that will guide/direct their work, yet also inspires, encourages and helps develop them with progressive competency with leadership skills
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Applied Mathematics, Epidemiology or other relevant area, and/or M.D., or equivalent and typically two years of exemplary postdoctoral experience. Must have the ability to perform data analyses using appropriate coding languages (such as R) or statistical software programs. Must be a team-player with good organizational and communication skills. Must be able to work independently, as well as highly attentive to detail, and dependable.
