Job Description
The Department of Biomedical Informatics seeks a highly motivated Health Data Scientist to be a lead analyst on an infrastructure effort enabling a department-wide electronic health record-based research. The Associate will be part of a team that studies large multi-institutional health datasets to infer new approaches to determine disease risk, diagnosis, and management. They will contribute to data infrastructure including database development, recoding data, the application of data ontologies, data harmonization, and natural language processing of free text health record data among other tasks. Job requirements and desired attributes are listed below.Requirements: Master’s or higher degree in Biomedical informatics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or related field is required. Experience in large data wrangling and analysis in R and/or python (numpy, scikit, pandas), bash/unix scripting, high-performance computing. Desired attributes: Experience with database management including relational database design in SQL. First-hand experience working with digital data byproducts of healthcare, e.g. electronic health care data, imaging data, billing or claims data, including natural language processing and modeling experience to assess association or causation. Interest in learning the process of ethics review of human subjects research, and preparation of IRB protocols.
