Job Description

Responsibilities
The Beckstead lab is hiring a staff scientist to perform and direct projects involving in vivo electrophysiological experiments in mice. The successful candidate should be able to design and conduct electrophysiological experiments, prepare reports and papers for publication, and communicate research in poster and oral presentations at relevant conferences. The candidate will also be asked to oversee and/or manage research projects as well as guiding and training graduate students, postdocs, and lab staff.
The candidate should have extensive experience performing electrophysiological experiments in live rodents, knowledge of brain circuitry, and familiarity with quantitative measures of action potential rates and patterns. The candidate should possess skill in formulating and testing hypotheses, analyzing large amounts of data in a highly quantitative manner, writing scientific manuscripts, communicating both orally and in writing, mentoring students, and directing the work of less senior scientists. Finally, the candidate must always act in a highly ethical manner in regards to obtaining and analyzing data as well as the appropriate treatment of lab animals.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in a biological science, chemistry, physics or other relevant area, M.D., or equivalent AND a minimum of three (3) years postdoctoral experience.
