As a postdoctoral scientist in Oncology at Janssen, you will join the Bladder Disease Area Stronghold team to develop innovative combination products for the treatment of cancer. The research will be focused on the integration of highly potent, small molecule drug substances into controlled release device platforms in support of long-acting therapies.
The candidate will be responsible for the creation and development of powder-based forming and loading methods that overcome the challenges of conventional drug product processing and shaping techniques. The ultimate goal is to demonstrate a robust processing technology at an R&D scale with proven manufacturability. They need to have a sense of urgency, be well organized, and adhere to project timelines. An excellent scientific track record is critical. Experience in the powder physics and colloidal chemistry, as well as the capability to develop hypotheses, propose & execute experimental validation are top requirements.
You will initially be assigned to a two-year R&D project. The work will be done in collaboration with Janssen device engineers and drug product scientists, as well as stakeholders from all relevant functions. The position will offer an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in cutting edge, long-acting combination products and establish yourself as an innovator in controlled release devices for Oncology. The candidate is expected to publish their research.
Primary responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
Identify and/or create preferred processes based on powder/granule characteristics, handling and dosing requirements, including uniformity and manufacturing targets.
Demonstrate compatibility and stability with current processes and materials.
Demonstration at a pilot R&D lab scale with manufacturing readiness.
Provide appropriate visualization to support decision making.
Keep up-to-date in the literature related to their field. Act as an expert resource in their scientific field and in related disciplines.
Propose novel and actionable ideas, aligned with internal scientific strategy and capabilities.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree in engineering or applied sciences: biomedical / medical, materials science, mechanical, chemical or other relevant fields.
Basic finite element modelling and simulation skills are required.
Strong understanding of particle-particle, particle-substrate interactions, fluid dynamics, powder processing techniques, and microfluidics is required.
Knowledge of high throughput assembling processes is a plus.
Experience in combination product development is a plus.
Clear and professional verbal and written communication (excellent presentation skills).
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people, across cultures and functions.
Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage several experiments/projects simultaneously.
Detail-oriented, with excellent record-keeping skills.
Ability to analyze and present data in professional 'publication ready' format.
