Research Fellow in Terahertz Quantum Cascade Lasers
- University of Leeds
- Location: Leeds, United Kingdom
- Job Number: 7099629 (Ref #: EPSEE1071)
- Posting Date: May 10, 2022
Job Description
Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in quantum cascade lasers, terahertz science or laser modulation schemes? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities?
We seek a post-doctoral research fellow to join a large five-year, collaborative, EPSRC-funded project. This exciting three-year position will give you the opportunity to work at the forefront of our rapidly growing field. You will focus on locking and modulation schemes for terahertz (THz) quantum cascade lasers (QCLs), to develop amplitude, frequency and phase control of these semiconductor devices. Specifically, you will make use of a range of optical and electrical techniques to control the amplitude and phase of the QCL with extremely high precision. This will lead on to the design and fabrication of monolithically integrated amplitude and phase modulation schemes for QCLs. The applications for this work include high precision spectroscopy and high-speed wireless communications.
You will join a world-leading terahertz group at the University of Leeds, with state-of-the-art growth, device fabrication, and terahertz experimental facilities, and collaborate with other members of the consortium including in the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge and University College, London.
You will have a background in at least one of semiconductor device fabrication; laser physics/optics; high frequency optical modulation; terahertz generation and detection methods; and fibre optics. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, a proactive approach to problem solving, and be comfortable interacting day-to-day with academics of all career stages across several institutions.
