Job Description
The Materials Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Appointee to conduct fundamental research in the field of battery development.
The research project will involve development of lithium-oxygen batteries. Experimental work involves material synthesis and characterization, including a wide range of electrochemical, chemical and structural characterization and electrode optimization.
Position Requirements
This position will involve a considerable amount of experimental laboratory work with a variety of characterization techniques including Raman spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and common potentiostatic and galvanostatic methods, etc.; coin cell, Swagelok cell, and three-electrode cell and familiarity with Maccor or other equivalent testing systems. The candidate should be able to analyze data, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, present papers at scientific meetings, and prepare reports and presentations/papers for group meetings.
Strong experimental knowledge in fundamental electrochemistry and different advanced energy storage technologies including Li-oxygen batteries and various battery reaction mechanisms
Considerable hands-on experience of battery material synthesis (solid-state, wet chemistry, mechano-chemical) and characterization (SEM, XRD, DEMS, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, etc.)
Ph.D. degree level with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent
The candidate is expected to independently and conduct research in a highly interdisciplinary environment of chemist, physicist and materials scientists
Skilled in safely handling air/moisture-sensitive chemicals
Experiences within situ/operando/ex situ synchrotron-based X-ray techniques (XRD, XAS, cell design)
