- Posting Date: Jun 9, 2022
- Application Deadline: Open Until Filled
Job Description
The Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to mainly conduct research to develop functional ceramic materials used for all solid-state batteries under the guidance of a supervisor. The project involves physical, mechanical, chemical, and electrochemical characterization of ceramics using various characterization techniques.
The candidate will establish the relationship between the physical/chemical properties and electrochemical performance of ceramics. The candidate will also conduct novel characterization of these materials using advanced x-ray synchrotron measurements. Provides an understanding on working principles and failure mechanism of functional ceramics. The candidate should be able to analyze data, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, present papers at scientific meetings, and prepare reports and presentations/papers for group meetings.
Position Requirements
Skill in solid-state synthesis technique to produce inorganic electrolytes, and layered oxide cathode materials and compounds
Deep understanding of electrochemistry, able to conduct the cyclic voltammetry, EIS, and galvanostatic test of half/full cells. Knowledge of synchrotron-based X-ray techniques (such as x-ray diffraction and spectroscopy) for in situ studies of Materials/Interfacial chemistry during synthesis and high temperature, high-voltage, or high rate operation
Skill in the characterization on the thermal stability of cathode materials (such as TGA, ARC, TGA-MS…) and safety of battery pack
Demonstrated skill in and understanding of providing novel solutions to electrochemical issues from other areas of materials research, oxides, composites, and electrochemical interfaces
Knowledge of processing and analyzing results
Strong oral and written communication skills and good record of publication and external recognition in relevant areas
A successful candidate will have recently completed PhD Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or Electrochemistry or another related field with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent
