Job Description
The Separation Science group in the Chemical Sciences & Engineering division at Argonne National Laboratory has an opening for a Postdoctoral Appointee to conduct fundamental research centered on liquid surfaces/interfaces of relevance to separation science.
As part of an ongoing program that integrates advanced techniques in surface physics with inorganic, analytical, and physical chemistries the successful candidate will contribute to the development of new capabilities in the area of surface applied optical and vibrational spectroscopies, including all aspects of data acquisition, interpretation, and presentation, both at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed literature.
Position Requirements
Ideally, we are seeking a candidate with considerable experience with optical and vibrational spectroscopy techniques, such as second harmonic generation (SHG) spectroscopy and sum frequency generation (SFG) spectroscopy
Considerable practical expertise and demonstrated applications of surface-sensitive measurements, including, tensiometry of liquid-vapor interfaces and Langmuir trough techniques. Considerable experience with surface functionalization and self-assembled monolayer preparation
Knowledge of high-resolution synchrotron-based X-ray scattering and spectroscopy techniques (such as X-ray reflectivity, X-ray standing waves, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy) would be a plus
Knowledge of liquid-liquid extraction, interfacial physics, data analyses methods.
Skill in both written, oral communication, and working interactively and productively in a multidisciplinary environment
Ability to work independently on a day-to-day basis
Ph.D. degree level with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent
