What You Will Achieve
We have an exciting postdoctoral fellow opportunity to join Pfizer’s Drug Safety Research and Development group in the Groton, CT Pfizer site. This postdoctoral fellow will study the hazard associated with gene perturbation, focusing on the context of viral integration following gene therapy. They can use systematics or statistical approaches (ML/AI) to develop a quantitative model of integration detection and hazard associated with viral integration profiles.
We are seeking a well-trained scientist with skills in toxicology, bioinformatics or computational biology who is also interested and passionate about getting training across disciplines. Your scientific research will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a dynamic pharmaceutical industry environment, to work with, learn from, and to influence fellow scientists. You will be expected to deliver the results of your novel research internally via various working groups, via external conferences and through publications in quality scientific journals.
How You Will Achieve It
Develop and validate pipelines for identifying integration from short and long-read sequencing platforms (preferable languages are R, python, and shell, but others are considered)
Identify, collect, and analyze externally available integration datasets in a systematic fashion
Create a quantitative understanding of hazard associated with gene perturbation in the context of viral integration
Communicate your research regularly across stakeholders in various groups both internally and externally
Assist or lead analyses of other data generated to answer research questions around viral integration.
Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Toxicology, Computational Biology, or related field
Strong communication skills (verbal and written). Ability and desire to share their research and findings to a broad spectrum of scientists
A solid foundation in a coding language (R or python) with excitement to dive into spending most or all their time on computational analyses
Intimate understanding of the concepts of gene therapy and viral integration
Experience with both bench and bioinformatic analyses that relate to viral integration
Familiarity with computational clusters and any submission environment (Slurm, lustre or others)
A great candidate may not meet all the criteria above. They should come with a strong background in science, some computational skills and a strong desire to dive deep into this important and complex question in a team of driven scientists.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis.
