Job Description
Postdoctoral Associate Position-Tumor Microenvironment and Tumor Immunology
Job Description
A postdoctoral associate position is available in the lab of Dr. Gary Ren to study tumor microenvironment and tumor immunology in cancer therapy resistance and metastatic relapse. Using genomic and proteomic approaches, cancer patient specimen analysis and mouse models of diverse cancer types, Dr. Ren’s lab mainly focuses on elucidating how mesenchymal lineage cells and immunoregulatory myeloid cells modulate the adaptive immune responses in treatment resistance and metastatic relapse. These studies will fully take advantage of the unique research platform at JAX--patient-derived xenograft (PDX) tumors in humanized mouse models, with the research goal to develop novel strategies targeting tumor microenvironment to improve the efficacies of conventional cancer therapies and new therapeutics such as immunotherapy.
The Jackson Laboratory (JAX), located adjacent to Acadia National Park in coastal Maine, is a leading nonprofit biomedical research organization and the Jackson Laboratory Cancer Center (JAXCC) is one of 71 NCI-designated Cancer Centers in US. JAX offers a unique research and training environment characterized by multidisciplinary scientific collaborations, exceptional educational programs, unparalleled mouse and genomic resources and outstanding core services. For outstanding postdoctoral trainees, JAX has a Postdoctoral Scholars Program (http://education.jax.org/postdoc-scholar.html) which provides an intellectually rigorous opportunity for early career scientists to become critical thinkers in preparation for scientific research, policy and entrepreneurial positions. Additionally, JAX has joint PhD programs with Tufts University and the University of Maine.
Required Skills
Highly motivated candidates with background/interests in immunology, cancer biology, molecular biology and bioinformatics are particularly encouraged to apply.
Required Experience
Applicants should have a PhD (or equivalent) degree in immunology, cell biology, or other similar disciplines. Applicants should have sufficient experience in mouse models of solid cancers and have first-authored publication(s) in decent scientific journals. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
For those who are interested in our research program, please submit (1) a cover letter describing past research accomplishments, research interests and career goals, (2) a current CV, and (3) the contact information of 2-3 references, as one PDF file to Gary.ren@jax.org.
