Job DescriptionThe Mitochondria Research Laboratory, North-West University, Potchefstroom, South Africa is seeking outstanding and motivated candidates to apply for a senior postdoctoral fellowship in Human Genetics or Molecular Biology. The fellow will join a dynamic group of scientists and clinicians investigating the genetic cause of neuromuscular disease in African populations, as part of the South African network of the International Centre for Genomic Medicine in Neuromuscular Disease (www.ucl.ac.uk/icgnmd).
The fellowship is available immediately (at the latest Jan 1, 2023) and is yearly renewable for up to 5 years with a tax-free remuneration of ~$27,000 p/a.

Applicants must have graduated within the last five years with a PhD degree in Human/ Medical Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field, preferably with at least two years’ experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Experience in human genetic disease research, gene editing, and bioinformatics would be key attributes. With the ICGNMD study at an advanced stage, a premium would be put on producing research outputs within a team environment, and proof of a strong publication record would thus be an additional asset. The expectations for this fellowship are publication productivity, co-supervision of post graduate students, and grant proposal writing.
