The Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to mainly conduct research to develop long-life and safe layered oxide cathode materials for electrochemical energy storage systems under the guidance of a supervisor. The project involves physical, chemical, and electrochemical characterization of layered oxide cathodes using various characterization technologies. The candidate will establish the relationship between the physical/chemical properties and electrochemical performance of the layered oxide cathodes. The candidate will also conduct novel characterization of these materials using advanced x-ray synchrotron measurements. Provides an understanding of the mechanisms of operation and possible methods for improvements of advanced electrochemical cells, including lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries. The candidate should be able to analyze data, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, present papers at scientific meetings, and prepare reports and presentations/papers for group meetings.
Successful candidate will have recently completed Ph. D Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or Electrochemistry with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent
Skills in different synthetic techniques (co-precipitation, solid state reaction …) used to produce layered oxide cathode materials and compounds.
Deep understanding of electrochemistry, able to conduct the cyclic voltammetry, EIS, and galvanostatic test of half/full cells.
Knowledge of synchrotron-based X-ray techniques (such as x-ray diffraction and spectroscopy) for in situ studies of Materials/Interfacial chemistry during synthesis and high temperature, high-voltage, or high rate operation.
Considerable skill in the characterization on the thermal stability of cathode materials (such as TGA, ARC, TGA-MS…) and safety of battery pack.
Good knowledge and good skill and understanding to provide novel solutions to electrochemical issues from other areas of materials research, oxides, composites, and electrochemical interfaces.
Knowledge of processing and analyzing results.
Strong oral and written communication skills and good record of publication and external recognition in relevant areas
