Job Description
The Department of Surgery at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons is accepting applications for Associate Research Scientists. The individual(s) will be responsible for management of laboratory functions and development of research programs that focuses on translational research and basic science. Our labs and collaborating partners combine expertise in various specialties including tissue engineering, stem cell, molecular & cellular heart valve biology, tissue biomechanics, polymer science, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, neurophysiology, electrophysiology, gastric cancer and tumor microenvironment, small and large animal models, medical device development, prototyping, clinical trial and patent writing. The individual will report to the PI, participate in academic activities such as attending/presenting at seminars and conferences, and help the PI organize the lab and guide junior lab members. The PI expects the individual to continuously learn and acquire new knowledge and skills for successful execution of the projects, and also to ensure success in his/her own subsequent career in the future. Finally, the individual will also apply for grants whenever appropriate mechanisms become available.
Additional responsibilities include active participation in the education of research fellows, residents and medical students. Responsibilities include participation in the academic and research missions of the University and the Department of Surgery.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree. Candidates should have strong scientific and postdoctoral experience and must be a highly motivated and productive researchers who are able to perform independent research, at least three years of postdoctoral research experience preferred. Hiring Salary Range: $66,100 - $80,000
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
