What Your Job Will Be Like: The Proliferation, Signature Discovery, and Exploitation department is a diverse and hardworking team of high-performing individuals. We are seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Appointee to work in quantum dynamics. Join our dynamic team and develop creative solutions to outstanding national security challenges! You will research theoretically the quantum dynamics of qubits and their transduction in disparate qubit storage systems. You should have a strong background in quantum dynamical systems and an in-depth understanding of qubit manipulation. Knowledge of the open quantum system and its evolution under the influence of external coupling is essential for your success in this role. Knowledge of the solid-state and condensed matter systems is a great plus. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Perform supervised but independent research to solve the problem + Document findings in a format suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals + Present the results at international conferences and workshops Qualifications We Require: + PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline + Record of strong technical contributions and excellent verbal and written communication skills, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and/or conference presentations Qualifications We Desire: + In-depth knowledge on quantum dynamical systems and quantum information science + Strong skills in numerical analysis tools such as MatLab, Python (especially the QUTIP package), and Mathematica + Experience with analyzing an open quantum system and its time evolution + Experience with quantum information theory (quantum Fisher information, channel capacity, Holevo bounds, etc.) + Experience with solid-state physics About Our Team: The Proliferation Signatures Discovery and Exploitation Department applies deep knowledge of optical sensing techniques to topics of relevance to Sandia and the nation. With backgrounds primarily in laser physics and chemistry, the group focuses on applications in hyperspectral sensing, trace particle detection and attribution and atmospheric measurement and modeling. In addition, the department is working on developing new laser technologies and new laser-based capabilities, such as quantum sensing. The work is supported by various internal and external customers.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance. Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Furthermore, employees in New Mexico need to pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to Kirtland Air Force Base. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
