Job Description
Argonne National Laboratory’s Chemical & Fuel Cycle Technologies division is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to be part of our multidisciplinary team conducting exciting R&D work for the development of molten salt technologies for nuclear, electrometallurgy, and chemical processing applications. As world experts on the nuclear fuel cycle, the division develops and qualifies fuels and innovative fuel recycle processes and equipment, models complex nuclear materials, and designs fuel cycle facilities.
With guidance, the Appointee will:
Develop new equipment and operational approaches for molten salt chemical and electrochemical processes that enable material recovery and/or purification.
Develop molten salt monitoring and control technologies to enable operations of large-scale molten salt systems.
Perform experiments to understand and quantify reaction pathways and kinetics for molten salt chemical systems.
Analyze data, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, attend and make presentations at scientific meetings.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and Laboratory management through status updates, technical research reports, project presentations, and other regular channels.
Position Requirements
Knowledge of general principles of chemistry and chemical technology is required.
Skill in devising and performing experiments to acquire data.
Experience in using and maintaining research equipment.
Successful in compiling, evaluating, and reporting test results.
Clear ability to present ideas, results and reports is required.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract.
This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, nuclear engineering, or related field at the PhD degree level with zero to three years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience.
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience in electrochemistry or electrochemical engineering is desired, but not mandatory.
Experience with high-temperature molten salt systems, actinide chemistry, or materials science is desired, but not mandatory.
