Job Description
A Postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Livio Pellizzoni at Columbia University to study mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease. The Pellizzoni lab is part of the Center for Motor Neuron Biology and Disease and is affiliated with the Departments of Neurology and Pathology & Cell Biology, offering a stimulating and multidisciplinary work environment.
The position will involve participation in NIH-funded research programs aimed at understanding the molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases caused by dysregulation of RNA metabolism. The projects employ multidisciplinary approaches in the areas of genomics, RNA/protein biochemistry and neuroscience using mammalian cell lines, human stem cell-derived neurons, and mouse models. Promising targets emerging from these studies are further investigated for therapeutic purposes using pharmacology and gene therapy. Responsibilities include design and execution of experiments, data analysis as well as assisting the PI with grant applications and scientific publications.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in the biological sciences and have strong expertise in biochemistry, molecular, and cellular biology. Prior experience with RNA binding proteins, human stem cells, mouse models, and/or viral gene delivery is an advantage but is not required. Effective communication and organization skills as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team are required. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented, with excellent laboratory skills and a proven record of research accomplishments. Time-management, multitasking and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced research program are essential.
Application Instructions
Interested applicants should apply to http://apply.interfolio.com/128739 or email Dr. Livio Pellizzoni ([email protected]) their CV, a cover letter with a description of previous research, scientific interests and career goals, and contact information for three references.
Hiring Salary Range: $60,000–$70,000.
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
