What Your Job Will Be Like: Are you passionate about your work and dream of using innovative facilities to explore solutions? Join a dynamic team that helps tackle some of the most challenging issues facing our nation’s security! We are seeking an individual with technical expertise in lightning, electrical breakdown, electromagnetics, high-voltage systems, and electromagnetic systems. This position will include elements of technical projects or scientific research and includes assisting in resolution of problems, designing new facilities, assessing current and future threats, presentation of results, and preparation of reports. In this role you will also support the Department Manager in strategic and scientific advisory roles for assessment of risks to components and systems in the environments mentioned above, including creating plans to mitigate the risks. You will collaborate with sponsors, which includes various DoD and DOE agencies, participating universities and national laboratories.Key functions of this role include: + Supporting the design and analysis of future high voltage and electromagnetic systems + Collaborating with sponsors from defense and National security programs, and + Providing technical guidance to assess threats to systems in extreme environments Join our team and achieve your dreams while making a difference! Qualifications We Require: + PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, High Voltage Dielectrics or in a related field + Experience in research and publishing in electrical breakdown, lightning, or electromagnetics + Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q Clearance Qualifications We Desire: + Proven experimental research in materials and electrical breakdown + Demonstrated experimental research in material behaviors in electromagnetic environments + Proven experimental research in lightning environments + Experience in design, maintenance, and operation of high-voltage systems + Hands-on training in electronics technology design and qualification + Experience leading and completing multiple programs and projects + Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external sponsors + Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple simultaneous tasks About Our Team: Department 1353 is a multidisciplinary research and development group supporting NNSA Defense and Work for Other (WFO) Programs. Our capabilities include experimental electromagnetics, the design and manufacturing of advanced power electronics, compact high current drivers, electron beam accelerators, x-ray sources, development and analysis of advanced materials and components, and plasma physics. Department 1353 employs a comprehensive research approach that includes analysis, simulation, and hardware verification. his team is part of the Radiation, Electrical and High Energy Density Science (REHEDS) Research Foundation at Sandia. Security Clearance:

Position Information: This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
