The Chemical Sciences and Engineering (CSE) Division is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee, and the successful candidate will perform research to understand reactivity of carbonate minerals and rocks in contact with aqueous solutions relevant to enhanced geothermal energy systems.
The candidate, located in the Interfacial Processes Group will use a combination of in-house capabilities (e.g., scanning probe microscopy, optical holographic imaging, scanning electron microscopy) and X-ray based tools (e.g., X-ray reflectivity, imaging).
The work involves performing experiments, the interpretation of experimental data, and the presentation of results at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed literature.
This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in physics, materials science, chemistry, or geochemistry at the Ph.D. degree level (with a concentration in areas such as X-ray science or interfacial science), with zero to three years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience
Considerable knowledge of interfacial geochemistry, experience with in situ and operando studies and associated wet-laboratory activities (sample preparation), and programming for data analysis
Good skills in oral and written communication with a record of publication and external recognition
Experience with synchrotron x-ray based measurements to probe structure and reactivity (e.g., X-ray reflectivity, X-ray imaging) is desired
