Job Description
The Learning Research & Development Center (LRDC) and the University Center for Teaching and Learning (UCTL) seek to make a two-year appointment for a post-doctoral position on the interface of learning science and generative AI. The person in this position will combine support for learning-science AI in university instruction with research related to technology-enhanced learning. This position is part of LSAI (Learning Science AI), a collaborative framework for learning science-infused AI on campus, leveraging the research focus of LRDC (and other academic units) and the applied practice focus of UCTL.
LRDC is a University Research Center dedicated to advancing the science of learning by bringing together researchers from the cognitive, developmental, social, educational, and computational sciences. Its faculty leads collaborative and interdisciplinary research on learning in its many forms and varied settings while providing education and research training across disciplines. https://www.lrdc.pitt.edu/
The UCTL is the University’s Center for Teaching and student learning, aiming to inspire excellence and innovation in teaching, learning, and scholarly activities. UCTL, in addition to serving traditional support functions for instructional design and improvement, has an important role in supporting the evidence-based and ethical use of generative AI by students and instructors. https://teaching.pitt.edu/
Candidates should have knowledge of AI, including experience with generative AI, and learning and educational applications of technology. A recent PhD is required from relevant fields, including computer science, information science, cognitive psychology, and educational technology. The start date is January 2024, although some flexibility is possible, and the duration of the position is two years.
