Job Description
Summary
This individual will serve the Department of Pathology & Immunology and its clinical, academic, and research missions at Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH). This individual will provide, in conjunction with the Medical Directors, clinical service and conduct research in the area of medical microbiology and train in areas of microbiology, virology, infectious disease serology, molecular microbiology and pathology in the clinical laboratories.
Job Duties
- Presents data at local and national meetings.
- Supervises residents and medical students.
- Serves as co-author on publications.
- Understands and acts on the need for discretion due to the sensitive nature of research involved.
- It is expected that this person will complete the 2-year CPEP-accredited training program at TCH- and Baylor-affiliated hospitals and take the Medical and Public Health Microbiology board certification examination from the American Board of Medical Microbiology.
Minimum Qualifications
- MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral degree (e.g. Dr.P.H., D.Sc., D.O., D.V.M.) with training in microbiology, molecular biology, or a related discipline.
- Strong applicants would be those with prior experience in medical or public health microbiology, a scholarly record in peer-reviewed journals, excellent communication and writing skills, and an interest in conducting applied research in clinical microbiology.
